We want kids who do their homework.

When students fail because they haven't done their homework, we've short-circuited our learning goals.

Purposes of Homework-

• Practice (many times students don't know how to do the homework)
• Processing
• Pre-learning--hard to do, no guarantee that they will all do it
• Check for understanding

Create a decision making rubric -- when to grade and not to grade homework

10 minute rule--10 minutes/grade level/night--Total

Need to get feedback from kids on how much time they spent on their homework.  Gives teachers good feedback.  In other words, don't make homework number based, make it time based. 

Problem-this says nothing about quality of homework
